EU and Japan share the same vision and the same values regarding the development of the digital economy and of our societies. 5G will be a game changer for the digitalization process affecting all economic sectors including the delivery of services to citizens. The development of single global standards for digital technologies and in particular 5G and 'beyond 5G/6G' is of key importance. EU and Japan have a long-standing cooperation on digital including on research, standardization (3GPP, oneM2M) and regulation. The objective of today’s workshop is to explore avenues and specific subjects in terms of standardization for 5G and beyond on which the EU and Japan can collaborate within the framework of their bilateral and multilateral relations.
