Part1-CE Market Winners and Losers - a brief roundup of trends in the Worldwide Consumer Electronics Market
CE Market Winners and Losers - a brief roundup of trends in the Worldwide Consumer Electronics market

As CE revenues plateau the industry is asking “what next?” Smartphones in recent years have grown rapidly to command around half of worldwide CE revenues, whilst also cannibalising other product segments such as cameras and personal navigation devices. However, demand for Smartphones is now maturing whilst other categories involving In-Car Entertainment, Virtual Reality hardware, and Voice-enabled devices are starting to make an impact. This presentation will summarise Futuresource Consulting’s analysis of the outlook for new growth areas whilst considering the response of more traditional categories such as TV Displays, Audio, Set-Top Boxes and Home Video and Games Hardware. The presentation will also explore the rapidly evolving competitive landscape.

Part2-User Interface - Opportunities for Voice Personal Assistants and Gesture in the Home, Electronics
Opportunities for Voice Personal Assistants and emerging UI’s in the Smart home

Voice Personal Assistants will be supported in over 50m Home CE devices shipping in 2017, Smart Speakers will represent the largest share but are far from being the only carriers of VPA’s in the home, as DMA’s, Smart TV’s, Consoles, STB’s and networking devices integrate Google Assistant, Alexa, Siri, Cortana among other ‘white label’ offerings. Demonstrating the lure of VPA’s in the home, Alexa has helped Amazon become the world’s largest home audio brand.

Meanwhile VPA’s appear to be helping to galvanise a disparate Smart home market, which is beginning to materialise after years of market hype and expectation. Penetration of connected devices and appliances, services and ‘things’ in the home controlled by mobile apps and now voice, are ramping up.

VPAs are well positioned to be the next-generation interface, crossing over many verticals and applications. Meanwhile Sony launched Xperia Touch which combines VPA’s with a smart-projector to bring voice and touch together in to a novel infotainment smart-home hub device. New user interfaces in the home are reaching a level of maturity where they can and are altering usage models for CE hardware. This presentation will address what these ‘new’ user interfaces in the home mean for the Smart-home, for CE vendors, for content discovery and for consumers.

Part3-Entertainment Experiences - Virtual and Augmented Reality, 2017 and Beyond,
Entertainment Experiences - Virtual and Augmented Reality, 2017 and Beyond

Following a muted 2016, this year is being deemed again by many as the year for virtual reality as the tech industry heavyweights provide continued momentum for the technology and the content industry becomes increasingly aligned. The wide array of potential applications from consumer to enterprise and from productivity to entertainment is garnering significant investment despite the sector’s infancy.
Drawing on both consumer and industry research and utilising both data and independent insight, this presentation aims to draw rational, balanced and realistic conclusions of what to expect this year and beyond. The session will explore regional and technology trends for headsets and associated hardware, review and challenge monetisation models, identify and provide use cases of key enterprise verticals, comment on the impact of augmented/mixed reality, outline the competitive eco-system and finally the implications for CE vendors
